We are residents of Skippack Township.
This is to inform you (in case you are not already aware) that there is a subdivision of 58 homes being considered for the site of the Perkiomen Valley airport. There is a meeting of the Skippack Township Planning Commission scheduled for Tuesday, November 16 at 7:30 PM at the township building on Heckler Road, next to Skippack Elementary. Some reasons for opposing this development effort.
Traffic considerations Putting a development on this site will contribute greatly to the amount of traffic on Collegeville Road, Hildebeitel Road, Mine Road, Landis Road, and Mt. Airy Road (Landis, Collegeville, and Mine Roads form three of the four borders of the airport property). The increased traffic on these roads will have fairly severe safety impacts for residents who live on or near these roads (there are several school bus stops along these roads). In addition, Hildebeitel Road, currently a residential street with a 30 MPH speed limit, will become a major thoroughfare, as will Collegeville Road between Township Line road and Landis Road. This is mainly due to the fact that most of the day-to-day destinations for people -- grocery stores, retail, Route 422 --.are located on the Collegeville side of the Perkiomen Creek. For residents who live on these roads, it is expected that the increased traffic and resulting congestion will negatively impact homeowners’ property values. For residents of Hildebeitel Road particularly, this means that on-street parking (regularly used for visitors) will no longer be a practical option. Finally, there are two school bus stops on Hildebeitel Rd. The increased traffic presents an important safety concern.
Water quality
There are several homes in the area immediately surrounding the airport that rely on well water. In addition, two tributaries of the Perkiomen Creek -- one that runs through the Iron Bridge Estates neighborhood, another that runs between Hildebeitel and Collegeville roads -- have their headwaters situated on the airport property. Increased development will increase storm runoff due to more of the land becoming nonpermeable. This will result in more frequent and severe flooding events downstream, and could pose a hazard to the structural integrity of Hildebeitel, Creek, and Township Line roads where the creek passes under through culverts.
I urge everyone to attend the Planning Commission meeting on the 16th at 7:30 PM and voice opposition to this development. I will be there early to answer any questions you may have.
Thank you for your time.

Ignoring the residents is nothing new. They did the same thing on Church Road when they put big homes on postage stamp lots when Mark Marimo was in office. We tried to stop it and he rudely told me that I couldn't do anything to stop it.
